So long, Picnik… HELLOOOO, PicMonkey!!!

We were all sad to hear our beloved Picnik is going away…

Put away your tissues… Stop your crying, ’cause there’s a new kid in town…

You will be happy to learn that PicMonkey is NOT run by Google! (As of yet… But who’s to say Google won’t try to buy them up… Sorry, that’s just me being cynical.)

Anyhoo, PicMonkey was created by former Picnik engineers, and it is faster, more powerful, and easier to use than Picnik!!!

Yay! I’m just a little bit excited! (Can you tell??)

I’ve been using Picasa ever since I learned that Picnik is going away. I wanted to give myself plenty of time to get used to it before the last of the Picnik baskets were carried off by the ants. I don’t really like Picasa at all, but it’s what I had to work with. One big down side (at least for me…) is, Picasa does not have any sticker capability. I realize you can add fonts to replace stickers, but that’s just a pain! (IMHO, of course!)

With PicMonkey, there is really, no learning curve, because it has all the features that Picnik did (yes, even stickers! ;))

On the main page, you will find a collage of different pictures that you can play around with, to get used to the layout, before you download your own.

Here is an example of a before and after picture of my daughter eating spaghetti. (Aren’t spaghetti pictures the best?!)

And, here is the same picture after a few clicks in PicMonkey…

Pretty cool, huh? (And, pretty stinking cute, if I do say so myself! :D)

Here is a little sneak peek of the recipe I will be posting later this week…

The before…

And, after…

Yummy! :D

So, there you have it! PicMonkey… My new BFF!

P.S. I was not compinsated for my opinion of PicMonkey. I’m just really excited about it! :D

P.P.S. I realize that “P.S”. is supposed to come after the signature, but it’s just how I roll, folks! :D

  1. Thank you, I can’t drag myself away from Picknik just yet but I’m going to have a look at the Picmonkey now so I’m prepared for the 19/04

  2. I have used picnik some for portrait photos but have been really happy with Picasa for my real estate photos. Now they have changed picasa to try and cover some of the things that picnik had. So now I am having trouble with Picasa. I guess I will try out picmonkey! Thanks for the heads up!

  3. Thank you SO much for telling us about this! I am still trying to make as many things as I can on Picnik before it moves on. I will try this new site out asap!

    Best wishes,
    Natasha in Oz

  4. OH EM GEEEEEE I FREAKING LOVE YOU!!! I’ve been freaking out over what to do about Picnik closing!!! YESSSSSS!!!! Love your blog by the way!

  5. Thanks so much for linking this up to Project Queen! I have a question for you… (I’ve asked picmonkey on facebook, but no answer). All goes well when I download my picture. But the problem comes when I type my website (watermark) on the picture. I can’t move it around! I get the arrow, but still can’t move it around. My daughter thought I was crazy, but when she tried it – same problem. Any suggestions????

    So frustrating!

    • Mandy, that’s crazy! I’ve never tried putting my website on my pictures with the .com on the end, and I’ve never had any problems, with just putting my website name. (I think I will try it with the .com, though, just to see what it does.)

Maybe try typing a few letters, move it to where you want it, and then adding the .com on the end after you get it where you want it.

You could also try the Picmonkey email on their contact page. I received a response when I asked whether they were owned by Google. I think it took a couple of days, but I still got a response. I hope this helps!

      • I literally cannot move any text that I type around on the picture – (like if I wanted to put my blog name in the corner) it just stays in the middle.

When you or someone gets a chance, will you type some text and then see if you can move it around on the picture????

        Thank you all SO MUCH!!!

        I will contact Pic Monkey

        • Mandy, I just tried it, and I was able to move my text around. I typed what I wanted in the little box on the upper left, then I clicked on what font I wanted, and clicked the add button. Once my text appeared on the picture, I could click on it and move it around. Try it again, and if it stalls, close Picmonkey out altogether, and bring it up again and re-install your picture, and try it again.

          • Thank you so much Stephanie for giving it a try. I heard back from PicMonkey last night. It’s something with my computer! Ugh. I have a Mac so I will need to take it in and find out what is going on. Thank you for your time! At least I know it’s not me ;-).

          • Mandy, I hate to hear about your computer! (I’ve been having computer problems myself, so I feel your pain!) At least you’ve figured out what the problem is. :D

  6. I just went over and checked out PicMonkey. You are now officially my favourite person in the whole wide world! Thank you so much for sharing this awesome news!!

  7. Have you seen the new Picasa? Seems that google didn’t have their head completely buried in the sand. They have moved almost EVERYTHING to Picasa. You can make collages there now, and they have a lot more filters and features. I’m loving the new Picasa :)

      • Have you printed enlargements after editing from Picasa and/or PicMonkey? How did they turn out? Sometime when I go to order it says that it is not recommended …???

        • I have printed enlargements and they were a bit grainy. I was not using the best camera in the world so I can’t say which was at fault, the camera or the editing. I will try it again, now that I have a better camera. ;)
