Slow-Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

I found this recipe on Pinterest. It came from Polish The Stars.

Slow-Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

My friend Trudy made this one night, for us to try. It was super-duper yummy!

We licked the platter clean fo’ sho’! (Sorry Alysha!) ;)

I just had to make this for my family.

I’ve included the slow-cooker version, and a cheater version in the recipe. I’ve made this both ways, and it turned out great both ways.

Slow-Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

(adapted from Polish The Stars)

1 ½lb of Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (about 4 large or 6 small)
4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
3 cans (10.5oz) Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup
1 box (32oz) Chicken Broth
1 medium White Onion, diced
2 dashes of garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
10 Large Flaky Refrigerator Biscuits

Place chicken in crock pot and top with butter.  Add cream of chicken soup, chicken broth and diced onions.  Cook on High for 4-6 hours or Low for 6-8 hours.

*For the cheater version: I combined the chicken, soup, broth, and onions in a pot and brought everything to a boil on high on the stove-top. Reduced the temp to low and simmered for 1 hour. Continue with the rest of the recipe*

Cut each uncooked biscuit into 8 small pieces and stir into the chicken mixture.  Continue to cook on High for 30 minutes.  (*If doing cheater version, check dumplings after about 15 min*) Remove chicken from slow-cooker and shred with a fork.  Return to slow-cooker and stir everything together.  Serve hot. (This is also good the next day.)

Makes about 6-8 servings.

So de-lish!
A definite comfort food! Nice to make when you don’t want to turn on the oven. ;)
Enjoy!

  4. Looks great, I’d love to come home and find that waiting! Bet it smells amazing. Thank you for sharing it on A Crafty Soiree. I’ve featured it in this week’s party, which will be up at midnight. Please come by and see if when you get a chance. I’ve also pinned it.

  5. I tried this last night. I cooked mine on this stove and added some carrots as well. I served it up with some mashed potatoes and bread sticks and oh my was it good. I was kind of leary about the dumplings as I’m not big on the kind you make out of biscuit mix but they were wonderful. I’m glad I tried this. I told my youngest son I was making them different and he argued with me after that they were the same as the ones I always make.
